Questions
Are you the septic company?
No. Jefferson County Septic is an independent referral service. We pass your request to a local licensed septic company, and they do the work and give you the quote.
Does this cost anything?
No. Sending a request is free and you are under no obligation to hire anyone.
How quickly will someone call?
We can't promise a time. Each septic company sets its own schedule. If sewage is backing up, choose that in the form and we'll mark it urgent.
How do I know if I have a septic system?
If you pay a sewer bill to a city or sewer district, you're probably connected. If not, you most likely have a septic tank. Your town page lists who to ask.
How much does a pump-out cost?
The septic company quotes your job. Public cost guides put a typical pump-out in Jefferson County at about $300 to $600 (SepticTankHub), depending on tank size and access.
How often should a septic tank be pumped?
Many sources say every 3 to 5 years. A county sewer supervisor quoted in a 2013 Leader article said every 2 to 3 years. Bigger households and smaller tanks need it more often.
What counts as an emergency?
Sewage coming up into the house, or no drains working. Limit water use, flush as little as possible, and choose "Sewage backing up" in the form.
Who handles septic permits?
In unincorporated Jefferson County, the county's Code Enforcement Division handles on-site sewage permits and inspections. We don't issue permits or do inspections.
What happens to my information?
We use it only to connect you with a local septic company about your request, and we share the request details with that company so they can contact you. We do not sell your information to marketers.
Do I need to know where my tank is?
No, but it helps. If you know where the lid is or when it was last pumped, add it under optional details.
